The Big Short
Four outsiders in the world of high-finance who
predicted the credit and housing bubble collapse of the
mid 2000s decide to take on the big banks for their lack
of foresight and greed. The Big Short describes several
of the key players in the creation of the credit default
swap market that sought to bet against the
collateralized debt obligation (CDO) bubble and thus
ended up profiting from the financial crisis of 2007–10.
The book also highlights the eccentric nature of the
type of person who bets against the market or goes
against the grain.

The Buzz...
Following in the footsteps of Steven Spielberg and
Stanley Kubrick, Christopher Nolan is prepping an epic
war movie titled Dunkirk about the WWII evacuation of Dunkirk, France.
Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance
are in talks to star in the action thriller.
Marvel fans got a first look at Benedict Cumberbatch in
costume as Doctor Strange. The Sherlock star graces the
cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly. Sporting a red cowl,
blue robe and goatee, Cumberbatch’s new superhero looks faithful its comic book
counterpart.
Kate Beckinsale continues to keep a low profile nearly a month
after her split from husband Len Wiseman. Beckinsale, 42, was spotted arriving
at Lax airport following the holiday weekend, once again sans wedding ring. The
actress kept her look simple wearing a pair of ripped black jeans, a cream
jacket and an oversized matching scarf wrapped around her neck.
Because even Torrenters fall behind on their movie viewing, 2014's
Interstellar has taken the title of the most pirated film of 2015.
Christopher Nolan's space epic, which starred Matthew
McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and Jessica Chastain
in a role she would reprise in The Martian, took the title with a grand
total of 46,762,310 downloads.
Sacha Baron Cohen and his wife, fellow actress Isla
Fisher, donated $1 million to charity to aid Syrian refugees, according
to Save the Children. Cohen, best known for his roles in Borat and
Les Misérables, and Fisher, star of the upcoming Keeping Up
with the Joneses, split the donation between Save the Children and the
International Rescue Committee, according to Save the Children.
HBO’s Game of Thrones once again topped TorrentFreak’s year-end
list of the most pirated TV shows. The HBO drama, which has taken the top
slot since 2012, was followed by The Walking Dead and
The Big Bang Theory in the No. 2 and 3 slots,
respectively.
Bethenny Frankel sure knows how to multi-task. The Real
Housewives of New York City star happily mixed business and pleasure during
a Miami getaway this weekend. While showing off her toned beach body, the
Skinnygirl mogul also tapped away on her phone and smiled broadly. Frankel
recently celebrated her 45th birthday in New York City with Rhony costars
Carole Radziwill and Dorinda Medley.
As Star Wars: The Force Awakens obliterates movie records (here's a
list), Adele's 25 is obliterating music records, moving 7.13
million copies in five weeks. It took 21 52 weeks to sell that many copies. As
Billboard reports, the album had its third platinum selling week, and
actually increased sales 46 percent over the previous week, which is crazy.
Hello, it's me, the most popular singer on the planet.
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are gaining yards in
their relationship. It appears the mother of three has taken up her boyfriend's
interest in football, cheering for Shelton's favorite team, the Arizona
Cardinals. The couple were spotted at University of Phoenix Stadium on
Sunday to watch the Cardinals play the Green Bay Packers.
