Road House (2024) (Prime Video)
The violent remake of the violent 1989 original with
Patrick Swayze (also streaming on Prime Video
and Max) is here, with Jake Gyllenhaal
playing the ass-kicking bouncer at a bar in the Florida
Keys. Expect ultraviolence as he has to take on former
MMA fighter turned actor Conor McGregor.
Road House is exactly what it needs to be. A
self-serious yet simultaneously very silly modern day
riff on the Western that's packed with testosterone,
crunchy action and jokes in the most unexpected places.
It feels like a streaming movie in some distracting ways
but it still remains one of the better ones.

Palm Royale (AppleTV+)
Kristen Wiig wants into the most exclusive
club in Palm Beach, and she’ll do anything to get there.
Even if she doesn’t know much about rich people. It's a
fun look back at the social scene back in the 60's.
Viewers may be old enough to remember much of the
clothing, furniture, and cars which are all very
realistically depicted. Times were a bit more innocent
on the surface, but lots of interesting things happened
behind the scenes which would now be considered
"politically incorrect". It's almost a dark comedy back
in a time where people openly flaunted their wealth.
Featuring Ricky Martin, Allison
Janney, Leslie Bibb, and even Carol
Burnett.
