At The Movies
Civil War
A journey across a dystopian future America, following a team of military embedded journalists as they race against time to reach DC before rebel factions descend upon the White House. Calling the film CIVIL WAR (in a US context) is a bit of a misnomer. The film is about a small team of war photographers who go on a risky road trip to Washington to "interview" the president, while a civil war is going on in the background. The film's focus is primarily on the ethics of war photography and the personal costs for the photographers.

A Gentleman In Moscow (Paramount+)
Count Alexander Rostov. (Ewan McGregor) When, in 1922, he is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, the count is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel's doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him a doorway into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

Anatomy Of A Fall (Hulu)
The story begins when Samuel is found dead in the snow outside the isolated chalet where he lived with his wife Sandra, a German writer, and their partially-sighted 11 year old son Daniel. An investigation leads to a conclusion of "suspicious death": it's impossible to know for sure whether he took his own life or was killed. Sandra is indicted, and we follow her trial which pulls the couple's relationship apart. Daniel is caught in the middle: between the trial and their home life, doubts take their toll on the mother-son relationship

Drake has been spreading his generosity all throughout his It’s All a Blur Tour, gifting fans shopping sprees, offering to pay one fan’s late mother’s mortgage and promising to cover a concertgoer’s medical expenses as she battles multiple sclerosis. “I’m going to get you a good lawyer, and we’re gonna pay for your divorce tonight,” the Toronto native said in a viral clip of the moment that was captured during a break at the Prudential Center in New Jersey last week. “You gon’ be single and ready to mingle with your fine ass.”

Elizabeth Hurley is dismissing rumours that she was the older woman Prince Harry claimed took his virginity in last year’s revealing memoir, Spare. Royal watchers speculated that the woman was Hurley but the British actress, 58, dismissed the rumours in an interview with Andy Cohen. When asked if she was the woman in Harry’s book, the mother of one replied: “Not me. Not guilty,” before going on to add, “No. Not me. Absolutely not.”

Warner Bros. is taking another trip into the Matrix, but this time it will be with a new writer and director. Lana Wachowski, who shot the last instalment, 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections, and helped create the series with sibling Lilly in 1999, will stay on as executive producer. It’s not known if Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, who have starred in all of the previous movies as Neo and Trinity, will return.

Wish reached 13.2 million views in its first five days on Disney+, where it debuted on April 3 after a November 2023 theatrical release. That makes the film the No. 3 most viewed streaming premiere for a Walt Disney Animation Studios film, trailing Encanto and Frozen 2.

Deliver Me From Nowhere, the upcoming film about the making of Bruce Springsteen’s landmark 1982 “Nebraska” album, has landed at 20th Century Studios. The Bear star Jeremy Allen White is in talks to star as the legendary rocker. Scott Cooper will write and direct the film, which is based on Warren Zane’s 2023 book Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.

The first installment of Kevin Costner’s Western epic Horizon, an American Saga is set to premiere out of competition at Cannes Film Festival.
