Hollywoodland
Adrien Brody, Diane Lane and Ben Affleck
star in a compelling exploration of fame and identity, inspired by one of
Hollywood's most infamous real-life mysteries. The story follows a 1950s private
detective who, investigating the mysterious death of Superman star George
Reeves, uncovers unexpected connections to his own life as the case turns
more personal. The torrid affair Reeves had with the wife of a studio executive
might hold the key to the truth.

Akeelah & the Bee
A precocious eleven-year-old girl, Akeelah Anderson, from south Los Angeles, is
discovered to have a talent for words. In spite of the objections of her mother
Wanda, Akeelah enters a spelling contest. Her gift takes her to compete in the
National Spelling Bee, the most famous competition of its kind in the world. On
the way, she is helped by a forthright, mysterious teacher, Dr. Larabee, and
other members of her community.

The Killers and Audioslave will be able to download tracks
for free through the website Spiralfrog, starting in December. The site's
partnership with Universal Music is designed to counter Apple’s iTunes
stranglehold on the digital music market. The catch is that the songs can’t be
burned onto CD’s, and they’re not compatible with iPods.
Pink has been tapped to perform the theme song for NBC’s Sunday Night
Football. Pink wrote the lyrics to the song, which uses the music of Joan
Jett’s I Hate Myself For Loving You. The show’s producer said they chose
Pink because she is “a tremendous talent with a crossover appeal.”
Dave Chappelle told students at Central State University in Ohio
that he has no regrets about quitting his Comedy Central Show.
Chappelle’s decision to walk away from the show reportedly cost him 50 million
dollars in lost income.
Donald Trump has turned on one of his own, giving the axe to his
longtime boardroom sidekick and Apprentice costar Carolyn Kepcher,
amid a newspaper report that TV fame had gone to her head.

Aerosmith
frontman Steven Tyler will mark his return to television when he
plays himself on Two And A Half Men. In the role, Steven appears as
Charlie's famous Malibu neighbor, playing loud music and causing problems. This
is the second time Tyler will appear on the show, having done a voice over as
himself in 2003.
Korn fans will have two new releases to look forward to in the fall. Up
first is an expanded edition of their album See You on the Other Side on
September 26th. It will include remixes and live tracks, as well as a DVD of
footage from the past year. Also in the works for late this year or early 2007
is a CD/DVD package from the current Family Values Tour.
Dave Navarro has co-created a new TV series that goes behind the
scenes to show what it's really like playing in a well-known rock band. Dubbed
The Product, the one-hour drama was recently picked up by FX. It was created in
tandem with Entourage writer Cliff Dorfman and journalist Neil Strauss,
who assisted Navarro with his book Don't Try This at Home.
Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker, better known as two
thirds of Blink 182, have set a release date for the first album from
their new band, Plus 44. The disc will be called When Your Heart
Stops Beating and it hits stores on November 14th.
Dave Grohl has invited two Australian miners out for a beer. The
men who were trapped for two weeks in a collapsed mine earlier this year. During
their rescue, they asked for Foo Fighters songs to be downloaded
onto MP3 players. Grohl has invited the survivors out for some cold ones when
the band plays in Australia next month.
Nick Lachey is making use of his unmarried free time. The singer
is now part owner of a brand new basketball team. Based in Los Angeles, the
team, dubbed the Hollywood Fame, is part of the American Basketball Association.
Jessica Simpson has confirmed rumours that she is dating none
other than sensitive singer songwriter John Mayer. Sources close
to the newly divorced superstar reportedly say she wants to “keep it private”.
Kevin Federline’s notorious Teen Choice Awards performance
hasn’t stalled his music career. Britney’s baby-daddy has scored a deal with
Sony BMG, which also just happens to be the home of Jive
Records, the label responsible for his wife’s catalogue.
Anna Faris will star in an untitled comedy for Paramount
Pictures and Adam Sandler's Happy Madison
Productions. Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith (Legally Blonde) will
write the screenplay based on an idea by Faris about an unemployed centerfold
who takes up a job as the house mother at a sorority in UCLA.
After a five-year absence from movie screens, Chris Tucker is
about to begin shooting Rush Hour 3 with Jackie Chan.
Staind, Godsmack and the New Cars have all picked
nominations for the 19th annual Boston Music Awards. Godsmack and Staind are
both up for Act of the Year, while all three acts are nominated for Album of the
Year.
CBS Paramount has announced that all 79 episodes of the original
Star Trek are being digitally remastered and will be heading into
syndication next month for the first time in 16 years in honor of the sci-fi
classic's 40th anniversary.
Harold Perrineau (TV's Lost) will join Jeremy Renner
in 28 Weeks Later, the sequel to the 2003 zombie thriller 28 Days Later.
MySpace.com will soon enable members of the popular online social
networking hub to sell downloads of their original music directly through
MySpace Web pages. |
