At The Movies
The Guardian
After losing his crew in a fatal crash, legendary Rescue Swimmer Ben Randall
(Kevin Costner), is sent to teach an elite training program for
Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers. While there, he encounters a young, cocky swim
champ, Jake Fischer (Ashton Kutcher), who is driven to be the
best. During training, Randall helps mold Jake's character, combining his
raw talent with the heart and dedication required of a Rescue Swimmer. Upon
graduation, Jake follows Randall to Kodiak, Alaska, where they face the inherent
dangers of the Bering Sea and test their training and courage.
On DVD
Curious George
The adventures of Curious George, the inquisitive little guy with an insatiable
taste for adventure. George's spunky and fun-loving nature endears him to new
friends, but also lands him in a series of (mis-)adventures. There seems to be
an appreciation for the original story without the belief that it's outdated
that keeps the movie refreshingly innocent.
The Buzz..
For the third
year in a row, American Idol will command the highest advertising
prices on television, with a 30-second spot going for $500,000 to $700,000.
FOX will charge the most during Tuesday night's performance show, with
Wednesday night's results show remaining the second-most pricey hour of TV.
Dr. Dre is reuniting with his protégé Snoop for the first
time in half a decade for a track on the Doggfather's upcoming album, The Blue
Carpet Treatment. The disc will also feature guest appearances from R. Kelly,
Stevie Wonder, The Game, Ice Cube,
Nate Dogg and Ne-Yo.
Hilary Duff is expanding her consumer goods empire with a brand
new product. The 18-year-old launched her new fragrance With Love...Hilary Duff
at Macy's in New York recently. The perfume is marketed by the same company as
Britney Spears scents, Curious and Fantasy.
It's another day in court for Guns n' Roses frontman Axl Rose, as
he's now being sued by an art dealer who claims Rose backed out of a deal to pay
2.36 million dollars for an Andy Warhol portrait of John
Lennon.

Justin
Timberlake's campaign to bring sexy back is paying off. His new solo
album FutureSex / LoveSounds has hit #1 in Canada, the US, Britain,
Ireland, Australia and Singapore and landed in the top five in a host of other
countries. The album is also the most pre-ordered album on iTunes ever.
Green Day are among the Warner Records acts that
YouTube users will be able to watch online in the near future. The label has
struck a deal with the popular website to provide content for free by the end of
the year. Meanwhile, Universal Records seems to be taking an
opposite approach. The company's chairman was quoted last week as saying the
site "owes us tens of millions of dollars."
Aaron Carter is engaged to a Playboy Playmate who
used to date his older brother, Nick. The 18 year old singer popped the question
onstage at a casino in Las Vegas. No date has been set for the wedding yet, but
bride to be Kari Ann Peniche says they plan to marry within the next six
months.
Kevin Federline is getting ready to put the publicity machine into
motion for his debut album. K-Fed is offering an autographed photo to the first
500 people who pre-order his Playing With Fire disc through his online store.
Madonna has knocked Cher out of the top spot as the top-grossing
female touring artist of all time. Her Confessions tour will have earned well
over US$200 million when it winds up tonight in Tokyo. The tour broke records
despite having a relatively limited run of just 60 dates.
Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson are definitely a couple,
according to People magazine. The gossip mag reports that the pair were
spotted out on the town last weekend. The new couple requested a bamboo divider
to hide their table on the patio of the Beverly Hills Hotel, a ploy which seems
to have failed to block the all-seeing eye of People magazine.
Hinder singer Austin Winkler is getting a lot of
satisfaction from the success of Lips of an Angel, especially because he had to
fight with label execs to include it on their debut album, Extreme
Behavior.
George Clooney will direct and star in the football film
Leatherhead for Universal Pictures. Renee Zellweger is also in
talks to co-star in the romantic comedy.
Though Rick Rubin is currently tied up with U2 in London,
he's slated to work with both Metallica and Velvet Revolver
next. VR drummer Matt Sorum says "I think we're going to beat
Metallica to the studio 'cause we write songs faster than they do." The working
title for the new VR disc remains Libertad, although Sorum previously dismissed
singer Scott Weiland's statements that it will be a concept
record.
Walt Disney Pictures is looking to turn another theme park ride
into a feature film following the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean
franchise. The studio would like to turn Jungle Cruise into a
feature film for Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar to pen the
screenplay.
Three Six Mafia are the latest act to climb on the reality TV band-wagon.
The rappers have signed on to star in a series called Adventures in
Hollyhood, about the adventures of the Three Six entourage in Tinseltown.
A court order barring Supernova (featuring Tommy Lee,
Jason Newsted, Gilby Clarke and now vocalist Lukas
Rossi) from using the moniker has forced the act to amend its name to
Rock Star Supernova, in deference to a California band that
already holds the rights to the name.
Clandestine Industries, a new clothing line conceived of and
designed by Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, debuted during
New York's fashion week. Clandestine is notably different than many other labels
in that Wentz says his clothes are designed for all sizes and body types, not
just catwalk models.
LL Cool J is set to play an undercover LAPD officer in a new hour long TV
drama called The Man. The veteran rapper will have his hands full with the show.
Not only is LL's character an undercover cop raising three adopted kids during
the day, LL will also co-produce the series alongside CSI creator/writer
Anthony Zuiker.
Joe Simpson manages the careers of his daughters Jessica
and Ashlee, and it looks like he's become their official photographer as
well. Papa Simpson has reportedly been selling photos he takes of the girls to
celebrity photo agency WireImage, including shots from private family vacations. |
