Frost/Nixon
Nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture, this historical drama
is based on a true story. Among the film's other Oscar nominations are Best
Director (Ron Howard), Best Actor (Frank Langella)
and Best Adapted Screenplay (Peter Morgan working from his own stage play). The
story is about the 1977 confrontation between British TV personality David Frost
(Michael Sheen) and former President Richard Nixon (Langella).
Frost risked his own money in hopes of rejuvenating his floundering career,
while the disgraced Nixon was seeking absolution.
The Buzz..
Hills stars
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are set to make their
marriage official this weekend according to Us magazine. The couple unofficially
eloped in Mexico five months ago, then backed out of a Beverley Hills courthouse
wedding which would have made their union legal on The Hills season 4 finale.
Their third attempt at marriage will take place at sunset this Saturday at a
church in Pasadena, Calif. Heidi’s mom says she gives the marriage “six months.”
The Lollapalooza 2009 lineup has been announced. The
Killers, Jane’s Addiction, Beastie Boys and Snoop
Dogg will all headline. Featuring over 100 performers, the Chicago
festival takes place in August and tickets are selling faster than ever.
Festival creator, Perry Farrell, insists the festival is recession
proof and offers fans the perfect escape from these troubled financial times.
Lifetime will finally get to walk down the Runway in August. The
cable channel has announced that its first season of Project Runway
will debut Thursday, Aug. 20. The companion show Models of the Runway
will also premiere that night. Host Heidi Klum, mentor Tim
Gunn and judges Nina Garcia and Michael Kors
will all make the move over from Bravo.
Might the fourth Twilight film not see light of day? Over the past two
days, rumors have flown about whether a film version Breaking Dawn,
the final book in the human loves vampire series, is already in some stage of
pre-production. Sources say author Stephenie Meyer is wrestling
with how the book can possibly be adapted for the target tween audience,
considering its more mature subject matter.
Former Will & Grace star and Emmy winner Debra Messing
is headed back to NBC for a new comedy. The show will star Messing as a
CEO who loses her job and finds her self badly prepared to take up the day to
day responsibilities of looking after her kids. Likewise, her husband isn't
quite ready to be the primary earner.
Because one Kardashian show on E! just wasn't enough, the cable
channel is spinning off Kim's two sisters in their own venture. The star-loving
outlet has also ordered up a new series about a semi-famous clan: The
Lamas Family will train cameras on former Bachelor winner Shayne
Lamas, her dad, Lorenzo, and two siblings. Both shows will be on
the air later this year. The Kardashian spinoff will follow
sisters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian to Miami, where they'll go
to work opening a new outpost of their boutique, Dash.
Ugly Betty, which got bumped from several weeks of airtime for
Samantha Who? and In the Motherhood, is doing the bumping this
time. The comedy starring America Ferrera will return with the
episode Rabbit Test, airing on Thursday, April 30, a week earlier
than previously announced.
Susan Boyle may be getting a new look, despite claims to the
contrary. We will be making [Susan] over on the show, a rep for Britain's Got
Talent, the show that discovered Boyle, 47, tells In Touch. Earlier, Talent
judge Amanda Holden had been vocally opposed to the possibility of
Boyle getting a makeover, saying "I won't let Simon Cowell take
her to his dentist and I certainly won’t let her near his hairdresser." The
Scottish singing phenom stunned judges, the audience and YouTube viewers
worldwide when her frumpy appearance belied her surprisingly accomplished
performance of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables.
Will Smith is making Sci Fi see dead people. Smith's
Overbrook Entertainment production company has teamed with Sci Fi to develop
Unfinished Business, a two-hour movie that could expand into a full
series. The story follows a former policeman who, after an accident, starts
seeing the memories of dead people. Presumably, he'll use said memories to
fulfill their final requests.
Kid Rock went home with the Outstanding National Single award at
this year's Detroit Music Awards. Rock scored the win for the song All
Summer Long.
Eddie Van Halen launched a new line of guitars. So what is he doing for
an encore? The guitar virtuoso is launching a sneaker line. The new kicks will
be available in both high and low-top canvas and will be available with red,
white and black stripes and also in black and yellow stripes. You'll be able to
buy them at select department stores as well as at EVHGear.com.
AC/DC want fans to know that they will NOT be headlining
Romania's Bucharest Rock Arena Festival, despite advertisements from the
shows promoter saying they will. To make matters worse, they've reportedly been
selling tickets for the May 30th and 31st event using the band's name.
Buckcherry are giving their fans a chance to appear in the band's video
for the song Talk To Me. Go to www.buckcherrytalktome.com
and follow instructions on how to upload your video to YouTube for submission.

Sony/Columbia Pictures is moving forward on a third Robert Langdon
film to be based on the upcoming Dan Brown book, The
Lost Symbol. The upcoming book follows the character of Robert
Langdon after Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci
Code. The Lost Symbol hits stores September 15, 2009.
Maggie Gyllenhaal will join Nanny McPhee and the
Big Bang, a sequel to the 2005 film Nanny McPhee. Emma Thompson,
who is writing the screenplay and exec producing, will reprise her role from the
first picture. The films are based on the Nurse Matilda books by Christianna
Brand.
Elizabeth Shue will star in Piranha 3D, a remake of
the 1978 Joe Dante horror film. Alexandere Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) will direct
the picture, which will be projected in 3D.
Shue will play the town sheriff trying to save herself and her family from
deadly piranhas.
Shooting begins in May for a March 2010 release.
Adam Sandler is reportedly the MVC of Hollywood. Forbes
magazine released its list of the Most Valuable Comedians and Sandler is
on top. Will Ferrell comes in second, and Ben Stiller
is third. Tina Fey, Seth Rogen and Dane
Cook aren’t even on the list.
Kanye West's latest single, Amazing, has been chosen as the
soundtrack for the NBA's 2009 Playoff commercial. Flashy footage and
awe-inspiring moments from past playoff games are used to interpret the song's
lyrics. Larger than life ball handlers like Kobe Bryant, LeBron
James and Shaq star a series buzzer beaters, slam dunks and behind
the scene moments.
Chris Brown is not dating Girlicious member Natalie
Mejia, or a former hometown sweetheart, a spokesperson for the singer
told People Magazine. Natalie from Girlicious told MuchNews
that she has no comment about the rumours. Brown pleaded not guilty last week to
charges of assault and making criminal threats in connection with girlfriend
Rihanna. He’s due in court on April 29.
Lindsay Lohan has actually redeemed herself in our eyes. The usual
trainwreck of a starlet is the latest famous person to take to Funny Or Die
to prove they're funny. Lindsay posted a spoof ad of herself looking for love on
a dating service. The recently single Lohan made fun of everything from what the
media writes about her to her trips to rehab.
