Django Unchained
Django is a slave whose brutal history with his former
owners lands him face to face with German born bounty
hunter Dr. King Schultz. Schultz is on the trail of the
murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him
to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django
with a promise to free him upon the capture of the
Brittles; dead or alive. Success leads Schultz to free
Django, though the two men choose not to go their
separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South's
most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing
vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one
goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda, the wife he lost
to the slave trade long ago. Django and Schultz's search
ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie, the proprietor
of "Candyland," an infamous plantation. Exploring the
compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz
arouse the suspicion of Stephen, Candie's trusted house
slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous
organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz
are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between
independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and
survival.

Resident Evil: Retribution
Awakening in a top secret Umbrella facility as the T-virus threatens to wipe out
the last remnants of humanity, Alice (Milla Jovovich) must battle
her way through virtual simulations in order to break out of the complex and
save the Earth in this fifth Resident Evil film. While the apocalyptic plague
rages above ground, below the surface lies a massive base powered the evil
supercomputer, the Red Queen, who will stop at nothing to contain humanity's
only biologically-enhanced hope that is Alice. While factions in the Umbrella
Corporation strive to help Alice escape, the Red Queen unleashes zombies,
monsters, and clones of her ex-comrades to stop her. Only when Alice stumbles
across a young girl who's been bred to think that she is her mother does the
two-fisted heroine find a new reason to live. Sienna Guillory,
Michelle Rodriguez, and Kevin Durand co-star.
The Buzz...
Twilight stars and once again off screen couple Kristen Stewart
and Robert Pattinson are reportedly considering making another
movie together, and following in the footsteps of another famous Hollywood
couple. Pattinson and Stewart are mulling over the idea of starring in a remake
of the 1965 film The Sandpiper, which starred Elizabeth
Taylor and Richard Burton.
A judge decided to dismiss the $20 million extortion case Jennifer
Lopez filed against her ex-driver as a countersuit to his claim that she
didn't pay him the money he was owed.
Could Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have slipped a
marriage right under our noses? It could be that the two of them secretly tied
the knot, and no one noticed. Well, no one except those who follow Cyrus on
Twitter. Cyrus tweeted images on Christmas where she and fiancé Hemsworth
are seen posing in front of their Christmas tree. But it could be that the
pictures revealed more than Cyrus and Hemsworth meant them to. If you look very
closely at the above photo (which has since been deleted from Cyrus' Twitter),
it looks as though Hemsworth is wearing a wedding band.
There could be still more turnover at the judges' table on The X Factor.
A report says Britney Spears may join L.A. Reid in exiting
the show. But where Reid left of his own accord, Spears is about to "get the
boot," The X Factor, which wrapped its second season last week, has gone through
quite a bit of turnover in its short life. Cheryl Cole was let go
as a judge before the first season even premiered, replaced by Nicole
Scherzinger. Following Season 1, Scherzinger, fellow judge Paula
Abdul and host Steve Jones departed. Spears and Demi
Lovato joined as judges this season, and Mario Lopez and
Khloe Kardashian Odom took over as hosts.
Has Tom Cruise found a new woman? According to new reports he has,
though some remain dubious that the rumored couple has even met. New York City
restaurant manager Cynthia Jorge is reportedly the latest woman to
catch Cruise's eye after a source says she slipped him her card when he was
eating at her restaurant, Beauty & Essex.
Brandy and her music executive beau Ryan Press are engaged,
a source close to the couple says. The R&B singer, 33, and former competitor on
Dancing with the Stars, went public with their romance last New Year's
Eve, cuddling at a Las Vegas party.
Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper are returning to
cohost CNN's New Year's Eve coverage for the sixth consecutive year. The
dynamic duo will ring in 2013 live from Times Square, where they'll undoubtedly
bring loads of laughter and entertainment as we count down to the new year.
Even more proof that Christmas Day was far from misérable at the box office:
Fandango reports that Tuesday was its best-ever single day for ticket sales,
breaking a record set when The Avengers opened on May 4.
Apple CEO Tim Cook's compensation for its latest fiscal
year dropped sharply from last year when it was boosted by stock awards of
$376.2 million. For the latest fiscal year, Cook earned $4.2 million, down more
than 98 percent from $378 million a year earlier, according to a regulatory
filing late Thursday. His salary rose to $1.4 million from $900,000. Cook, who
became CEO in August 2011, did not get stock awards for the latest year as the
tech firm awards them only every other year.
As predicted last week, Taylor Swift's Red album remains at No. 1
on the Billboard 200 for a sixth nonconsecutive week, selling 276,000, according
to Nielsen SoundScan. The set posts a big increase in sales (up
32%), as do most of the chart's titles. That's natural, since the most recent
tracking week ended Sunday, Dec. 23, when consumers were busy shopping for
last-minute Christmas gifts. T.I.'s latest album arrives in the runner up
slot with 179,000. It should come as no surprise then that the week marked the
busiest for album sales in 2012.
There weren't many people invited to Kate Winslet and Ned
Rocknroll's secret wedding ceremony, but one A-list star made the cut:
Leonardo DiCaprio, Winslet's costar in 1997's Titanic and
2008's Revolutionary Road. In fact, the unattached Django
Unchained actor, 38, walked the bride, 37, down the aisle and gave her
away.
