Lord of the
Rings: The Return of the King
The final installment in the Lord of the Rings trilogy is absolutely, hands down
fantastic. Highlights this time around include much better facial CGI work on
Gollum, fear-invoking riding-to-battle sequences, and the three hobbits besides
Frodo really getting their different chances to shine. Return of the King is the
most colorful, most visually fantastic of the three. There is a lot more
contrast going on in this film, in which the light of good and the darkness of
evil clash for one final time. Already named as the best picture of the year by
the New York Film Critics Circle, Peter Jackson has truly saved the best for
last. For the die-hard fans, New Line will be re-releasing the first two movies
(as extended versions with 30+ more minutes) to theaters, presenting the entire
trilogy as a 10+ hour event.

Freaky
Friday
Dr. Tess
Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her fifteen-year-old daughter, Anna (Lindsay
Lohan) don't see eye-to-eye on clothes, hair, music, and certainly not in each
other's taste in men. Everything soon changes when two identical Chinese Fortune
Cookies cause a little mystic mayhem. On the next morning, their Friday gets
freaky when Tess and Anna find themselves inside the other's body. Its a
refreshing, quaint comedy that extols the virtues of thoughtful consideration
and selfless love. This is a great rental for the family to watch during the
holiday season.
The Buzz...
Buffy star
Sarah Michelle Gellar will star in The Grudge, the U.S. remake of the
Japanese horror film Ju-On. Sam Raimi of Spider-Man fame will be
producing the project.
John August (Charlie's Angels) will pen the script for Tim
Burton's Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. The film remake of Willy Wonka
& The Chocolate Factory has Johnny Depp currently attached to star
in the lead role.
Metallica have announced that plans for an official book are in the works
with an eye toward an August release. The tentatively titled So What! The
Metallibook by Metallica will include more than 1,000 photographs, an
introduction and handwritten notes penned by the band, plus archival material
culled from the long-running So What! fan magazine.
AC/DC's 1980 album, Back in Black, has been
certified by the RIAA as the world's second-best-selling
album. At 42 million copies sold, it lags only behind
Michael Jackson's Thriller, which moved more than 56
million copies.
Ryan
Reynolds will reunite with New Line Cinema having just come off of Blade:
Trinity for the studio. Reynolds will star in Sex Talk, in which he will play a
sports reporter who gains popularity after he applies sports terminology and
strategy to solve couple's sex problems.
WWE Films division has acquired an untitled horror pitch from
screenwriter Dan Madigan. The company will develop the project for one of its
wrestlers, though it was not reported as to which one they have in mind. The
lead character is being described as "a remorseless, relentless, vicious and
sadistic monster."
Walt Disney Pictures has announced the cast that will lend their
voices to Chicken Little. Zach Braff will play the title
character, with Joan Cusack, Steve Zahn, Amy
Sedaris, Don Knotts, Katie Finneran and
Garry Marshall providing voices for secondary characters. The lead
character was originally a female but has now been switched to a male.
The creators of NBC's Will & Grace have launched a lawsuit against NBC
accusing the network of conspiring to keep the show's brain trust from
collecting their fair share of profits from the Emmy-snagging sitcom.
Callum Blue (Dead Like Me) will star opposite Anne
Hathaway in The Princess Diaries 2, which will be directed by Garry Marshall
again. Sean O'Bryan and Joel McCrary have signed on
to reprise their role. Julie Andrews is also expected to return as
well.
John Pasquin will direct Sandra Bullock in Miss
Congeniality 2. Bullock will reprise her role as Special Agent Gracie Hart and
will produce the project based on a script by Marc Lawrence.
George Clooney is set to star in Syriana, and will also serve as
producer on the project along with Steven Soderbergh.
Rush have announced plans to commemorate their 30th anniversary with a
tour of North America and Europe in 2004. The Canadian rockers expect to launch
the jaunt in June.
