Motley Crue - Greatest Hits
More famous lately for their
non-musical pursuits, this disc serves a refresher course for the band that
started a musical revolution still felt today. Covering over 15 years of bold,
in-your-face hitmaking, and including two great new cuts produced by Bob Rock,
the Crue make no apologies for being what they are, one of the boldest, brashest
bands to ever strut the stage. If they keep this up, these boys are gonna end
up in an institution; the Rock n' Roll hall of fame. Get it.
At The Movies
The Rugrats Movie
One of the most popular cartoons
on television makes the successful leap to the big screen. Taken from a child's
perspective, this bright and refreshing film never underestimates its audience,
and manages to appeal to kids through adults. All the favorites are here, from
Tommy to Angelica, as their myriad of adventures include a new little brother
for the Pickles family. Great family fare.
On Video
Six Days, Seven Nights
Modern interpretation of a
classic screwball comedy scenario: A gruff, wisecracking cargo pilot (Harrison
Ford) and a sensual but tough New York magazine editor (Anne Heche) are thrown
together when they crash land on a deserted island. The bickering pair not only
have to struggle with themselves and their environment in order to survive, but
they most fend off modern-day pirates to fight their way off the island. A
frothy comic romance.
The Buzz...
Proving once again that people
have more money than brains, the hot toy this holiday season is Furby,
Tiger Electronics Inc.'s animatronic toy that reacts to touch and speaks its own
language. An online site, CyberShop's EGift which placed large Furby orders
earlier this year, is profiting from its foresight. Furby's price tag is a
whopping $92.96, for a toy that usually retails for $30. One doll, a rare
all-black Furby in a sealed box, was sold for over $1,000 last week.
The box office soared to just
short of $600 million for November, setting a new record, thanks in large
measure to Disney's unexpected sensation The Waterboy, starring
Adam Sandler.
If you can't think of the
perfect gift for that music loving fan, try a couple of tickets to Zone for the
Holidays, the annual multi-band extravaganza put on by Zone 105. This years
line up includes Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Semisonic, Marcy Playground, Beck,
Garbage and the Goo Goo Dolls all in one show that starts at 3 PM
December 19th at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
The sequel to Toy Story
has been scripted, and features Woody being stolen by a toy collector
because of his secondary market value. All the other toys try to rescue him, but
by the time they get there, Woody has bought into the whole idea of himself as a
priceless collectible rather than a fun child's toy, and Buzz Lightyear,
of all people, has to convince Woody of the essential nobility of being a toy.
Eddie Murphy will star in
a sci-fi comedy called Pluto Nash, directed by Ron Underwood, who
just completed Mighty Joe Young.
The movie Muppets From Space
will center around Gonzo, who, as many fans have long suspected, is not
any kind of terrestrial animal at all, but a visitor from another planet.
Look for a big selling
soundtrack to come from the yet to be released movie, The Faculty. Alice in Chains singer
Layne Staley and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello
will perform a cover of Pink Floyd's Another Brick In The Wall,
Creed and Soul Asylum cover Alice Cooper, and
the Offspring will contribute a new tune.
Marilyn Manson's
bodyguards allegedly choked one of the executive editors of Spin magazine
after a show in New York, over Manson's exclusion on the cover of January's
issue. Marilyn posted an official statement on his website stating that a
conversation took place buy no assault occurred.
Kate Mulgrew, star of
Star Trek: Voyager, is engaged to marry Cuyahoga County Commissioner Tim
Hagen.
A 29-year-old Brazilian
underwear model, Luciana Gimenez Murad, may be to blame for the marital
problems recently reported between Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall.
Giminez denies having an affair with the Rolling Stone, but admits, Mick is kind
of handsome in his little skinny kind of way.
The president of the Children's
Rights Council says Metallica should be prosecuted under the child-abuse
laws, for their video version of Bob Seger's Turn the Page. The
dark clip portrays a young girl sleeping while her mother, a prostitute, plies
her trade in the next room.
More casting news from the
Austin Powers sequel. Burt Bacharach will appear to sing his song,
I'll Never Fall in Love Again with Elvis Costello, the role of Mini-Me,
a miniature clone of Dr. Evil, will be played by Vern Troyer, and Frau Farbissina, founder of the militant wing of the Salvation Army, will
be reprising her role as well.
LeVar Burton, who
plays Geordi LaForge in the upcoming Star Trek: Insurrection, said
that in the film, his character, blind from birth, acquires the power of sight.
Pixar, which created Toy
Story and A Bug's Life, is at it again with their fourth movie in
development, titled either Hidden City or Monsters, Inc. Either
way, it's about a group of monsters who live under a little boy's bed and the
entire world they create there.
Steven Spielberg and
Tom Cruise are reportedly considering working together on a science fiction
film called Minority Report.
Lenny Kravitz and former
Living Color guitarist Vernon Reid are among the artists interviewed for
a Jimi Hendrix documentary to be released next year. Hendrix's father and
half-sister run the company releasing the film and accompanying CD. |
