The Iron Giant
A magical film that delivers a touching story of
friendship without any of the standard Disney fare (sidekicks, teacups bursting
into song). The Iron Giant focuses on a rambunctious child named Hogarth who
befriends a mechanical marvel. Set in 1957, when paranoia and the Soviet threat
were both at an all time high, Hogarth and the Giant must combine forces to
overcome the military that view him as a monster and a threat. Wonderful
animation that leaves the viewer with awe, and a compelling moral that teaches
us that humans can be the least humane of all.

EDtv
In order to offset a ratings slide, a local cable
channel comes up with the idea of putting one ordinary person's life, a
thirtysomething video store clerk (Matthew McConuaghey), on TV 24 hours a day.
Dubbed Edtv, the show becomes a hit. But what at first seems like a good idea
soon turns sour as the young man's family life begins to deteriorate. Directed
by Ron Howard and co-starring Jenna Elfman and Woody Harrelson, this film is a
bittersweet look at the price of fame.
