Donnas
Get Skin Tight
Opening their
third album with the sound of a fly unzipping, the Donnas come charging out of
the exposed opening like a lawless mob of switchblade toting, detention hall
schoolgirls. These ladies roll out rude, retro-inspired guitar hooks at a
feverish rate, capturing the spirit of teenage trash culture as well as anyone
since the Ramones. Nothing will sound better pumping out of the speakers of your
rusty junker than this.
At The
Movies...
Big Daddy
To impress a girl, an
underachieving toll booth operator adopts a son, only to discover he has to
raise the boy all by himself. Pretty tough when Adam Sandler is just a kid
himself. With jokes and plot lines that will make you laugh and cringe at the
same time, Sandler delivers another flick with blockbuster clout. If you
haven’t gotten his humor by now, you never will. Sandler may never win an
Oscar, but his fans couldn’t care less.
On Video...
Rushmore
When an over-achieving 15
year-old falls for the school's new first grade teacher, he's determined to
out-man his friend Mr. Blume, a steel tycoon and school benefactor, for her
affections. With its off-the-wall story line and
characters, Rushmore stays one step ahead of sappy sentimentality as it uses
dark humor to explore three lonely lives in search of emotional repair.
Funny and charming, you've never seen anything quite like this before.
