Former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist
Zakk Wylde is back doing what he does best. The first single, Bored to Tears,
is a Sabbath induced rocker while songs like Spoke in the Wheel and Beneath the
Tree are reminiscent of his previous solo efforts which included southern rock
and acoustic influences. Something Wylde calls “Alcohol Fueled Brewtality”, BLS
has concocted a lethal mix of straight up, hard-edged music.

Hugh Downs, who has been
a fixture as host of ABC's 20/20 since its second week in 1978, said Wednesday
he's leaving the show in September.
A playing card company suspended
an employee it says printed marked decks that allegedly were used to cheat a
casino of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Blackjack players were able to
identify high cards through the slight alteration on the card backs and increase
their odds of winning.
A woman who paid $1 for an old
book at a Netherlands flea market found etchings inside by Dutch master
Rembrandt that sold for $50,000. The woman bought the book last month in
the Dutch city of Utrecht. She found the etchings pressed between the pages
along with a third etching by one of Rembrandt's students.
Harvey Ball,
creator of the smiley face, says he'll send a smiley face pin to Marilyn
Manson with Lighten up, Marilyn written on it. Manson cut short a show when
he discovered a smiley face sticker stuck on a stage prop.
Tickets for
Woodstock '99 generated $7 million their first day on sale last week,
setting new Ticketmaster records in both regular and online sales. The Woodstock
'99 festival will be held in Rome, N.Y., July 23-25.
Two films of
interest to Star Trek fans, Denise Crosby's Trekkies (a
documentary on fans) and Mark Altman's Free Enterprise (about Shatner
groupies) will be released this summer.
Showtime is
planning a 4-hour Outer Limits marathon At 8 p.m. ET on May 14 to
celebrate the series' 100th episode of the series. The new episode, "Tribunal,"
concerns the son of a concentration camp survivor working to bring a war
criminal to justice with the help of a time traveler.

Gellar will host Saturday Night Live's season ender on May 15.
WWF fave Sable will make a guest
appearance in the second season premiere of the Sci Fi series First Wave. The
female wrestler is set to play Lucas, an equally formidable alien assassin sent
from the home world to eliminate Cade Foster in the episode Target 117.
Farm Aid '99 has been set for Sept. 12 in Bristow, Va., and co-founders Neil Young,
John Mellencamp and Willie Nelson will perform. Crosby, Stills,
Nash & Young could be on the bill this year, too.
A Falls Church,
VA-based firm boasts it will soon distribute a quick, computerized X-ray
security scanner much like the full body scan action hero Arnold
Schwarzenegger went through in Total Recall. American Security and Control
says the Conpass X-1280 allows a fully clothed individual to be totally X-rayed
completely through the body and computer processed to reveal a completely
detailed image. The image is processed in 10 seconds and will detect humans
carrying such items as contraband, gold and precious jewels, microchips, weapons
or drugs. |
